Queen Street Magic Boat is located in Durham: the traditional lands of the Eno and Occaneechi Saponi peoples, who are still present and maintaining their cultural traditions. We encourage support for the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, and we make a monthly reparative donation to the tribe here.

Since 2010, Queen Street Magic Boat—which started in the home, garden, and studio space of Durham artist, organizer, and dive instructor Catherine Edgerton-- has been an informal meeting and creation space for dozens of projects, including The Art Asylum; The Durham Searealists; Kaleidoscopic Dream Projexns; and The Durham Artists Movement. QSMB has collaborated with Durham Beyond Policing, SONG, and H2Afro among other local organizations to provide an incubation, studio, and performance space that has been used for music events, screen printing workshops, SCUBA classes, and art-builds. Since 2020, the use of the space has become more accessible to the public through studio open hours and access to artist residency space. This Fall, QSMB (which recently obtained fiscal sponsorship from Fractured Atlas and became an LLC) will formalize as a mixed-use art space. Catherine is lead organizer of this space, and is accountable to Gallery of the Streets and a circle of local advisors.

QSMB is collaborating with Pop Box Gallery and The Art Chose me to present a zero-commission gallery exhibition in September, 2024. This exhibit, entitled Death Planted A Garden will mark QSMB’s grand opening to to the public.
